Installing the Visual SC Designer on Windows Vista

All versions of the Visual SC Designer for VS 2005, starting from 2.0.234, are compatible to the Windows Vista. In order to install the Visual SC Designer on Vista administrator rights are needed. Per default users have no administrator rights on Windows Vista. In order to install Visual SC Designer on Vista you could execute following steps:

Download and unzip the installation package (i.e. VSCDSetup2005_2.0.234.exe)
Open command promt as an administrator

Click on Vista Start button.

Locate the Command Prompt menu item (inside Accessories under All Programs or appear on program access history).

Right click on Command Prompt.

On the pop-up right click context menu, select “Run as Administrator”.

Customizing the Visual SC Designer code generation, System 2.2 compatibility

The Visual SC Designer is able to generate a System 2.2 compatible code. Currently the OSCI SystemC 2.2 simulator is in a beta stage. Therefore per default Visual SC Designer generates the SystemC 2.1 compatible code. You can customize the code generation as follows:

Customizing SystemC module wizard and interface wizard

Open file “%VSCDRoot%\templates\init_wiz.xml” in any text editor (for example: notepad)

in order to change “sc_start(-1)” to “sc_start()” edit XML node “SystemCProjectWizardConfig\Sc_start_string\value” to be empty (<value></value>)
in order to change "#include <systemc.h>" to "#include <systemc>" edit the XML node “SystemCProjectWizardConfig \SystemCIncludeHeader\value” to “<systemc>” (<value><systemc></value>)

Open file “VSCDRoot\templates\init_codegen” in a text editor.

Installing the Visual SC Designer for Visual Studio 2003 and the Visual SC Designer for Visual Studio 2005 on the same PC

Installation of the Visual SC Designer for the Visual Studio 2003 and for the Visual Studio 2005 on the same machine is not supported. Please choose either the Visual SC Designer for the Visual Studio 2003 or the Visual SC Designer for the Visual Studio 2005. The functionality of both versions is equal. Up to now we had no requests to change the installation behaviour.

Please contact us, if you need the feature to install both versions on the same PC.

What is "Oustech Customer Experience Improvement Program” message in the Visual SC Designer

At Oustech, we know that the best products are the ones our customers can use to their fullest potential. Unfortunately there is no technology available to foresee any possible runtime situation in any execution environment. Therefore the Visual SC Designer constantly monitors own internal state, Visual Studio state and several other conditions. If any condition fails or in case of any unexpected situation Visual SC Designer creates an entry into the log file “VisualSCDesigner.log”, situated in the root folder of the Visual SC Designer, and outputs the following message into the Visual Studio’s output window:

“Oustech Customer Experience Improvement Program: please help us locate an unexpected issue by sending us the 'VisualSCDesigner.log' file and a description of the necessary steps to reproduce the problem!”

What is MD5 sum used for and how to calculate it

MD5 is a widely-used cryptographic hash function. In order to make sure that the downloaded file is not corrupted calculate the MD5 hash and compare it with the MD5 hash from our page. The hashes should be equal.

There are several MD5 calculators available for free in internet. md5sum.exe is installed as a part of cygwin. Alternative applications for windows are listed below
